We welcome your application for the position of Assistant Professor in Performing Arts.

The Department of Performing Arts will start a new bachelor’s degree and a new master’s degree programme in 2021.

We seek an individual to work with teaching, research and academic supervision at all levels of education within the field of performing arts.

As a candidate for the Assistant Professorship, it is expected that you have extensive engagement in artistic work and experience and as well an in-depth theoretical understanding for your field of art. You are expected to engage in and encourage artistic research efforts plus be able to critically reflect on the artistic processes that included as a part of your teaching.

You have a broad knowledge in the field of performing arts and have work with artistic processes and methods, artistic reflection and research-based knowledge processes in the performing arts in particular. The teaching of courses in the second-cycle educational programmes is partly in English.

Job description

Your work tasks and responsibilities include that you:

  • Teach courses and provide academic supervision to both individual students as well as groups of students in artistic representation and performance processes within performing arts.
  • Produce a basis for decisions relating to the planning of the courses, in consultation with the Programme Coordinator and Head of Department.
  • Provide academic supervision for artistic reflection work and preparatory elements of research, at all levels.
  • Participate in support to colleagues in the efforts to strengthen the Department’s research environment.
  • Participate in the further development of existing and new courses and programmes in relation to other specialisations in the Department.
  • Work with course administration, participating in Departmental development work, and collaborating with both internal organisations within SKH as well as external parties.
  • Actively engage in the developments in the field of Performing Arts and other societal developments particularly relevant to the work we do at the University.
  • Contribute to developing the research and education at SKH, and working for an integration of these areas.

In order to be eligible for the position of assistant professor in the artistic discipline you have to demonstrate both artistic and teaching expertise within the field of [XXX].

Detailed information regarding qualifications and assessment criteria for teaching appointments is stated in Chapter 4 Sections 3 and 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance.

The work duties and responsibilities require that you have an active, professional artistic practice in the performing arts with a specialisation in artistic processes and that you have conducted your own artistic research. In addition, you have those personal abilities required to competently fulfil the appointment and to be able to represent the university in a manner beneficial to the organisation.

Assessment criteria

The following criteria will be assessed, in this order of priority:

  • Artistic expertise: breadth and depth of specialised knowledge in your artistic field, as well as a good ability to develop and implement artistic research and development work of a high standard.
  • Teaching expertise: proven teaching capability and expertise in an artistic context.
  • Having successfully completed doctoral studies and/or have conducted one’s own research.
  • Relevant teaching experience including experience teaching second-cycle educational courses in the field of performing arts.
  • Having experience with group academic supervision of artistic performance processes
  • Having experience with working with the planning of educational programmes and instruction
  • Experience with working with a broadened participation and a norm-creative perspective both in teaching and in artistic practice.
  • Experience with teaching in English and a good ability to express oneself in English in both verbal communication and writing.

You have undergone training in teaching in higher education, or expect to do so within the next three years, or have in some other documented manner acquired equivalent knowledge.

About the position

The scope of employment is a full-time position and it is a fixed period of five years, after which the period of the employment must be renewed. However, the total period of the employment may not exceed more than ten years. Employment to commence at the earliest date August 1 2021.
