We are looking for someone with the desire to teach, conduct research, supervise and at all levels of film directing and visualisation in film and media.

As an Assistant Professor, you will need have both considerable artistic practice experience and a deep theoretical understanding of your chosen artistic discipline. You will be expected to engage in and drive artistic research and be able to critically reflect on the artistic processes incorporated in your teaching.

You will have the ability to develop a creative environment where students from different backgrounds and with a variety of prior knowledge and skills will be able to develop their artistic awareness and their ability to work with moving images and sound. Your broad experience of a variety of roles within film and media production will enable you to develop the subject. You will provide students with an insight into the culture that characterizes the film and media industry through the practical work the students carry out during their education. During 2019-2020, a large proportion of your working hours will be spent at our educational facility in Alby, south of Stockholm.

Your job description includes

  • Taking responsibility for students' education in film directing and visualisation in film and media
  • Developing study programmes, existing and new courses that meet the needs and demands of the department’s areas of activity outside SKH’s normal premises.
  • Leading and developing the department's collaboration with partners working at the place where courses are given.
  • Serving as a link between the study programmes provided at SKH on Valhallavägen and the courses that are given externally. You may also be asked to take responsibility for courses and modules for programme students on site in our premises on Valhallavägen.
  • Performing course administration, participating in the department’s development activities and collaborating both internally within the SKH and with external stakeholders in Sweden and abroad.
  • Actively participating in the development of the discipline of film directing and visualisation in film and media and general societal development of significance to the work of the university.
  • Contributing to the development of Uniarts education and research and working to integrate these two areas.

You will have an important role in the work of building a common culture of openness and collaboration within Uniarts, as well as in the creation of a good work environment. You may be offered assignments such as study programme or specialisation coordinator, board appointments and be afforded the time and opportunity to pursue artistic research.

Detailed information regarding qualifications and assessment criteria for teaching appointments is stated in Chapter 4 Sections 3 and 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance.

A prerequisite for fulfilling the duties of the position is that you have an active practice at a high artistic level in film directing and visualisation in film and media. In addition, you have those personal abilities required to competently fulfil the appointment and to be able to represent the university in a manner beneficial to the organisation.

You have experience of supervising actors' work processes in film and media.

We require you to have experience of working with broadened recruitment, equal opportunities and gender equality in the field of film and media.

You are proficient at communicating in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.

Assessment criteria

The following factors will be assessed, in this order of priority:

  • Artistic expertise; breadth and depth of knowledge in the area of artistic specialisation and a good ability to develop and implement artistic research and development activities of a high quality.
  • Teaching expertise; demonstrated pedagogical skill in artistic contexts.
  • Documented experience of working with film and media in a variety of genres, and different lengths and formats of fictive and documentary film.
  • You have documented proficiency in supervising actors' work processes in film and media.
  • Documented experience of working with broadened recruitment, equal opportunities and gender equality in the field of film and media.
  • Broad experience of different forms of teaching and examination and the ability to develop education-based partnerships.

You have undergone teaching in higher education training (or expect to do so within the next three years) or in some other documented manner acquired equivalent knowledge.

About the position

The scope of the employment is a fifty percent of a full-time position and it is limited to two years, whereupon employment may be renewed. However, the total period of employment may not exceed ten years. Employment is to start in January 2019 or by agreement.
