We welcome your application for the position of Assistant Professor in Circus with the responsibility for the bachelor programme

We are looking for someone with the desire to teach, conduct research, supervise and at all levels of circus. 

As an Assistant Professor, you will need have both considerable artistic practice experience and a deep theoretical understanding of your chosen artistic discipline. You will be expected to engage in and drive artistic research and be able to critically reflect on the artistic processes incorporated in your teaching.

Your job description includes

  • Leading, planning and developing circus education at the bachelor level. This includes for example scheduling and staffing of the teacher’s in the programme. Teaching may be included in the position.
  • Developing the programme in both pedagogical and artistic areas in collaboration with the head of department and colleagues.
  • Being responsible that the teaching within the programme has a good connection to education and research that are conducted at Uniarts.
  • Working to develop existing and new courses as well as study programmes in relation to other specialisations at the department.
  • Performing course administration, participating in the department’s development activities and collaborating both internally within the SKH and with external stakeholders in Sweden and abroad.
  • Actively participating in the development of the discipline of circus and general societal development of significance to the work of the university.
  • Contributing to the development of Uniarts education and research and working to integrate these two areas.

You will have an important role in the work of building a common culture of openness and collaboration within Uniarts, as well as in the creation of a good work environment. You may be offered assignments such as study programme or specialisation coordinator, board appointments and be afforded the time and opportunity to pursue artistic research.

Detailed information regarding qualifications and assessment criteria for teaching appointments is stated in Chapter 4 Sections 3 and 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance.

A prerequisite for fulfilling the duties of the position is that you have an active practice at a high artistic level in circus. In addition, you have those personal abilities required to competently fulfil the appointment and to be able to represent the university in a manner beneficial to the organisation.

Assessment criteria

The following factors will be assessed, in this order of priority:

  • Artistic expertise; breadth and depth of knowledge in the area of artistic specialisation and a good ability to develop and implement artistic research and development activities of a high quality.
  • Teaching expertise; demonstrated pedagogical skill in artistic contexts.
  • Experience of leading and planning higher education and/or productions.
  • Experience of administration in higher education and as well as budget processes.
  • Good knowledge in English, Swedish is a merit.
  • Documented good collaborative ability.

You have undergone teaching in higher education training (or expect to do so within the next three years) or in some other documented manner acquired equivalent knowledge.

About the position

The scope of employment is a full-time position and until further notice. Employment to commence at the earliest date.
