Mime figuration as taught at SKH is primarily based on the “The actor who thinks with their body” (Den kroppsligt tänkande skådespelaren) method. The roots of this method stem from Tomaszewski mime, curated and further developed by the mime artist Professor Stanislaw Brosowski. Technical elements/training, as well as creative elements/étude work are included in the subject.

We seek an individual to work with teaching, research and academic supervision at all levels of education within the field of mime figuration.

As a candidate for the Assistant Professorship, it is expected that you have extensive engagement in artistic work and experience and as well an in-depth theoretical understanding for your field of art. You are expected to engage in and encourage artistic research efforts plus be able to critically reflect on the artistic processes that included as a part of your teaching. The teaching is conducted primarily in English.

Your work tasks also include:

The primary responsibility consists of teaching mime figuration, individually and in groups/masterclasses along with academic supervision of students. The work will also consist of administrative tasks such as working with advising students on their studies, preparing and conducting examinations, grading reports and assignments, and other evaluations.

Your work tasks and responsibilities will also include:

• Leading the work of organising the educational programme for mime acting in terms of course planning and schedules.
• Working together with the Head of the Department and with other teachers in the educational programme for mime acting with the internationalisation of the programme in terms of the recruitment and admission of international students, maintaining and expanding the international contact network for the educational programme, and related matters.
• Participating in the further development of existing and new courses and programmes in relation to other specialisations in the Department, together with the Head of the Department.
• Participation in the Department’s development work and working in close collaboration with both internal Uniarts entities and external parties.
• Together with the other instructors in the educational programme for mime acting conduct activities that lead to a broadened recruitment of students to the educational programme.
• Actively participating in developments in mime figuration and other social developments significant to the work at SKH.
• Contributing to developing the research and educational programmes at SKH, and promoting an integration of these areas.

As an assistant professor you will have an important role in the work of building a common culture of openness and collaboration at SKH, as well as in the creation of a good work environment. You may be offered assignments or responsibility for study programmes or specialisations, board appointments, and be afforded the time and opportunity to pursue artistic research.

In order to be eligible for the position of assistant professor in the artistic discipline you have to demonstrate both artistic and teaching expertise within the field of mim figuration.

The work tasks and responsibilities presume that you have an active artistic and pedagogical practice in mime figuration with a focus the on “the actor who thinks with their body” method, which SKH’s mime performance education is based on. You also have the requisite personal attributes to successfully perform the tasks and execute the responsibilities of the position to a high standard and be capable of representing the school and its activities.

• Artistic expertise: breadth and depth of specialised knowledge in your artistic field, as well as a good ability to develop and implement artistic research and development work of a high standard.
• Teaching expertise: proven teaching capability and expertise in an artistic context.
• Documented excellent organisational skills
• Documented good knowledge of Swedish and English, both verbally and in writing, along with experience with teaching in English.

About the position

The scope of employment is of a full-time position and it is a fixed period of five years, after which the period of the employment must be renewed. However, the total period of the employment may not exceed more than ten years. Employment to commence at the earliest date August 1 2021.
