Mime figuration as taught at SKH is primarily based on the “The actor who thinks with their body” (Den kroppsligt tänkande skådespelaren) method. The roots of this method stem from Tomaszewski mime, curated and further developed by the mime artist Professor Stanislaw Brosowski. Technical elements/training, as well as creative elements/étude work are included in the subject.

Mime-based theatrical figuration consists of basic fundamental training in motion creation/choreography, the movement’s interaction with text and different methods of theatrical figuration/performative staging vis-à-vis voice in theatrical performance. This will also include to some extent dramaturgy for motion-based performing arts.

You work with teaching and supervision of mime performance students and theatrical acting students in mime-based theatrical figuration as well as provide academic supervision and follow the artistic development of the mime performance students in mime figuration

Your work tasks also include:

• Participate in the work of organising the educational programme for mime acting in regards to course planning and scheduling, along with other course administration
• Participate in further developing existing and new courses and programmes in relation to other specialisations in the Department and the social development in general that is important for the work at SKH.
• Together with the other teachers in the educational programme for mime acting work with the internationalisation of the educational programme in terms of recruitment and admission of international students, teaching in English, maintaining and expanding the international network of contacts of the educational programme.
• Together with the other teachers in the educational programme for mime acting, conduct activities that lead to a broadened recruitment for the educational programme.
• Participation in the Department’s development work and working in close collaboration with both internal Uniarts entities and external parties.
• Contributing to developing the research and educational programmes at SKH, and promoting an integration of these areas.

As an assistant lecturer you will have an important role in the work of building a common culture of openness and collaboration at SKH, as well as in the creation of a good work environment.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the position of assistant lecturer you have to demonstrate teaching skills, have a degree from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent skills that are significant with reference to the content of the subject and the duties included in the position.

Detailed information regarding qualifications and assessment criteria for teaching appointments is stated in Chapter 4 Sections 3 and 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance.

In addition, you have those personal abilities required to competently fulfil the appointment and to be able to represent the university in a manner beneficial to the organisation.

Assessment criteria

The following criteria will be assessed, in this order of priority:

• Teaching expertise: proven teaching capability and expertise in an artistic context.
• Documented professional experience working as a mime performer and/or choreographer/director.
• Documented experience of teaching in the subject of mime figuration and mime-based theatrical figuration. Experience with other methods of theatrical movement, such as Viewpoints or Corporeal Mime would be looked upon favourably.
• Experience in various forms of teaching and examination, along with the ability to develop and implement education with a high quality.
• Experience with teaching in English.

About the position

The scope of employment is eighty percent of a full-time position and it is a fixed period of five years, after which the period of the employment must be renewed. However, the total period of the employment may not exceed more than ten years. Employment to commence at the earliest date August 2021.
