The position of employment is based in the Department of Acting. We provide education and conduct research within acting and mime acting. The objective is for the students to gain knowledge and skills with which to critically assess and participate in developing the field of acting. This requires a reflective approach that enables our students to become independent artists following graduation who can challenge what is already known and strive for development and expansion within the field.

The Department of Acting together with the Department of Film and Media and the Department of Performing Arts are part of the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. Here we provide education and conduct research within film and media, acting and performing arts, and students and researchers also work together in transdisciplinary collaborations.

We are looking for someone who wants to work with teaching and supervision at both basic and advanced level in the subject body and movement. The subject is an important part in the education of actors and mime actors. We work in teaching teams and the teaching is planned and implemented in close collaboration with other teachers in the Department. You will actively contribute to the acquisition of knowledge by the students to enable them to critically evaluate and participate in the development of the field of acting and mime.

In addition, the position includes:

  • Responsibility for and development of the subject of body and movement within the Department courses and programmes, alongside the rest of the Academy
  • Actively participate in internal departmental work in developing the acting and mime specialisations with the bachelor’s programme in close collaboration with other teachers in the Department
  • Work with course administration such as planning, scheduling and course evaluation
  • Actively monitoring and contributing to the artistic development of the students
  • Develop collaboration both internal within Uniarts, as well as with external actors
  • Actively follow and stay abreast of developments in your subject area and general social development that is significant to the work of the Academy

As assistant lecturer you will have an important role in working towards building a common culture of openness and collaboration at Uniarts, as well as being involved in the creation of a good work Environment.

Eligibility

Eligibility for employment as assistant lecturer includes demonstrated educational skills, having a degree from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent skills that are significant with reference to the content of the subject and the duties included in the position. You should also have the personal abilities that are needed to carry out the job well and be able to represent the University to its benefit.

The duties require that you have knowledge and experience of working with the artistic processes of an actor and with using the body as an instrument of the actor, as well as having extensive experience in teaching movement.

You will also need to have the ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in at least one Scandinavian language and English.

Assessment criteria

The following assessment criteria shall be assessed in order of priority:

  • Documented experience of teaching movement for actors
  • Education skills; demonstrated educational skills in an artistic context within or outside of tertiary education
  • Documented experience of different forms of teaching and forms of examination, as well as the ability to develop and execute high quality education. It will be advantageous if you have knowledge of using some type of body-oriented method in teaching.
  • Ability to describe and reflect on your teaching and your approach to education
  • Demonstrated administrative skills
  • Documented good ability to work in teams
  • Interest in artistic research

You must have training in learning and teaching in higher education, or be expected to complete such a course within the next three years, or in some other documented way have acquired the corresponding knowledge.

About the position

The position is full-time for a fixed period of 5 years, the position may be renewed. However, the total employment period cannot exceed ten years. Start date from 1 January 2020 or by agreement.
