We welcome your application for the position of Assistant Professor of Musical Performance

We are looking for someone with the desire to teach, conduct research and supervise at all levels of musical performance. 

As an Assistant Professor, you will need to call on both considerable artistic practice and deep theoretical understanding of your chosen artistic discipline. You will be expected to engage in and drive artistic research and to be able to critically reflect on the artistic processes incorporated in your teaching.

Your job description includes

  • Teaching and supervising singers in musical interpretation in first-cycle and second-cycle.
  • Working to develop existing and new courses and study programmes.
  • Performing course administration, participating in the department’s development activities and collaborating both internally within the SKH and with external stakeholders in Sweden and abroad.
  • Actively participating in the development of the discipline of musical performance and general societal development of significance to the work of the university.
  • Contributing to the development of Uniarts education and research and working to integrate these two areas.

You will have an important role in the work of building a common culture of openness and collaboration within Uniarts, as well as in the creation of a good work environment. You may be offered assignments such as study programme or specialisation coordinator, board appointments and be afforded the time and opportunity to pursue artistic research.

You are a pianist and a vocal coach and some leading responsibility will be a part of your work tasks.

Detailed information regarding qualifications and assessment criteria for teaching appointments is stated in Chapter 4 Sections 3 and 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance.

A prerequisite for fulfilling the duties of the position is that you have an active practice at a high artistic level in musical performance. In addition, you have those personal abilities required to competently fulfil the appointment and to be able to represent the university in a manner beneficial to the organisation.

Assessment criteria

The following factors will be assessed, in this order of priority:

  • Artistic expertise; breadth and depth of knowledge in the area of artistic specialisation and a good ability to develop and implement artistic research and development activities of a high quality.
  • Teaching expertise; demonstrated pedagogical skill in artistic contexts.
  • Hands-on experience of vocal coaching on high professional level.
  • The ability to describe your teaching and pedagogical methods.
  • Documented and broad experience of various formats of high quality teaching/examination on first-cycle and second-cycle level and the ability to develop courses and programs.
  • Documented good collaborative ability.
  • Experience of teaching in English.
  • Knowledge of and an ability to develop international collaborations and exchanges.

You have undergone teaching in higher education training (or expect to do so within the next three years) or in some other documented manner acquired equivalent knowledge.

About the position

The scope of employment is a full-time position and until further notice. Employment to commence at the earliest date.
