We are looking for someone with the desire to teach, conduct research and supervise at all levels of physical performance. 

As an Assistant Professor, you will need to call on both considerable artistic practice and deep theoretical understanding of your chosen artistic discipline. You will be expected to engage in and drive artistic research and to be able to critically reflect on the artistic processes incorporated in your teaching.

Your job description includes

  • Designing your own courses and modules in music dramatic performance, in which movement and physical performance are emphasised.
  • Teaching music dramatic courses in collaboration with other teachers, in which movement and physical performance are emphasised.
  • Taking overall responsibility for the education of students in physical performance.
  • Working to develop existing and new courses and study programmes in relation to other specialisations at the department and to the development of the subject internationally.
  • Performing course administration, participating in the department’s development activities and collaborating both internally within the Uniarts and with external stakeholders in Sweden and abroad.
  • Actively participating in the development of the discipline of physical performance and general societal development of significance to the work of the university.
  • Contributing to the development of the Uniart’s education and research and working to integrate these two areas.

You will have an important role in the work of building a common culture of openness and collaboration within Uniarts, as well as in the creation of a good work environment. You may be offered assignments or responsibility for study programmes or specialisations, board appointments and be afforded the time and opportunity to pursue artistic research.

You are a choreographer or otherwise professionally engaged in artistic physical performance and have great experience of working with singers. You have an interest in working closely with teachers of singing, musical performance and stage performance, and in exploring the ability of opera singers to push the boundaries of their physical performance.

Detailed information regarding qualifications and assessment criteria for teaching appointments is stated in Chapter 4 Sections 3 and 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance.

A prerequisite for fulfilling the duties of the position is that you have an active practice at a high artistic level as a choreographer or in the field or artistic physical performance. In addition, you have those personal abilities required to competently fulfil the appointment and to be able represent the university in a manner beneficial to the organisation.

Assessment criteria

The following factors will be assessed, in this order of priority:

  • Artistic expertise; breadth and depth of knowledge in the area of artistic specialisation and a good ability to develop and implement artistic research and development activities of a high quality.
  • Teaching expertise; demonstrated pedagogical skill in artistic contexts.
  • Practical experience of choreography/physical performance for singers on stage at a high professional level.
  • The ability to describe your teaching and pedagogical methods.
  • Broad experience of various forms of teaching, the ability to develop and implement high-quality teaching at various levels.
  • Documented good collaborative ability.
  • Experience of teaching in English.
  • Knowledge of and an ability to develop international collaborations and exchanges.

You have undergone teaching in higher education training (or expect to do so within the next three years) or in some other documented manner acquired equivalent knowledge.

About the position

The scope of employment is thirty percent of a full-time position and is limited to five years, whereupon employment may be renewed. However, the total period of employment may not exceed 10 years. Employment to commence by agreement.
