Job Description

We are looking for a candidate who wants to conduct research and provide teaching and supervision at all levels in the field of Film and Media Directing. In your capacity as Professor of Film and Media with specialisation in Film Directing you will inspire students to research new forms of expression, genres, working methods and visual platforms in mediated narrative. You will also create opportunities for the students to develop traditional film narrative parallel with their investigative studies.

Your tasks will also mean that you are:

  • Responsible for the development of studies and research at Stockholm University of the Arts (Uniarts) as a whole and also specifically within the field of Film and Media Directing.
  • Responsible for existing and new courses and programmes in relation to other specialisations in collaboration with other teachers in the field.
  • Responsible for the Department’s collaboration with others internally at the University and with external actors, and that you actively seek to achieve integration between education and research at the University.
  • Responsible for developments in your own subject and that you also monitor social developments that are of significance for the work of the University.
  • To deal with course administration.

The artistic research you are expected to conduct as part of your position means for example your own research, participation in the research projects of others, and participation in the Department’s own research faculty meetings. The Department’s education and research environments are developing strongly and there are great opportunities with this position to become part of developing these activities towards the film and media markets of the future. You may also be offered commissions such as board roles, or responsibility for a study programme or specialisation.

As Professor, you will have an important role to play in the process of building a common culture of transparency and collaboration at SKH, and be involved in creating an excellent work environment.

Eligibility

We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated both artistic and teaching skills. Artistic skills at Professor level mean being a leader in your artistic field (discipline), maintaining the quality of your activity at the highest international level and having deep and broad knowledge of your artistic field.

Teaching skill at Professor level means that you have demonstrated teaching skill in artistic contexts within or outside the university. The ability to develop, lead and conduct high-quality teaching at various levels.

The tasks presuppose that you are pursuing an active artistic practice in the subject of Film and Media Directing. In addition, you must have the personal abilities needed to perform your duties effectively and to be able to represent the university in such a way that benefits its activities.

Moreover, you shall be proficient at teaching in a Scandinavian language and in English.

Assessment criteria

The following criteria will be assessed, listed in order of priority:

  • Artistic skills – excellence within your artistic field, demonstrated by active artistic practice. The quality of your activities is to be at the highest international level.
  • Teaching skills – proven teaching skills in an artistic context within or outside the University.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in promoting and implementing artistic research and development of high quality, or the equivalent demonstrated proficiency in artistic contexts outside the University.
  • Documented experience as a director in the production of film and media in different formats such as TV series and short and feature-length films.
  • Documented experience as a director of directing actors.*
  • Documented, sound interpersonal skills and experience of different types of methods of teamwork.
  • Documented experience of working in a capacity within the film area other than that of film director
  • Experience of teaching in a Scandinavian language and in English.
  • An ability to reflect on and address problems linked to values in relation to student recruitment and development of the subject.

You must have completed training in teaching at university level or are expected to complete such a course within the next three years. Alternatively, you must have documented equivalent knowledge.

About the position of employment

This is a full-time position and is a fixed period of five years, after which the period of employment must be renewed. However, the total period of employment may not exceed ten years. The applicant who is offered the position and who will, by including the time to be spent in this position, have been employed at Stockholm University of the Arts on a fixed-term basis in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (HF) Chapter 4, Section 10 for more than ten years, shall be employed on a permanent basis.

Start date January 2019.
