Job Description

We are looking for a candidate who wants to work with teaching, research and supervision at the first-, second- and third-cycle levels within cinematography for film and media in combination with artistic research. As Professor of Cinematography for film and media, you will develop the student’s ability to work in a variety of expressions and genres, and for a variety of visual platforms. The moving image is taking up more and more space in people’s everyday lives and you will convey to the students both the opportunities and the responsibilities associated with this.

Your tasks will also include:

  • Driving the development of education and research at SKH as a whole and within cinematography in particular;
  • Driving the development of current and new courses and study programmes in relation to other specialisations at the Department, and in collaboration with the other lecturers in this area.
  • Working with course administration, driving the Department’s development work and collaborating within SKH, and with external actors.
  • Driving development in your own field and following social development that is otherwise important to the work of the University.
  • Contributing to the development of and collaborations between SKH’s education, research and activities.

The artistic research you are expected to conduct as part of your position means for example your own research, participation in the research projects of others, and participation in the Department’s own research faculty meetings. The Department’s education and research environments are developing strongly and there are great opportunities with this position to become part of developing these activities towards the film and media markets of the future. You may also be offered commissions such as board roles, or responsibility for a study programme or specialisation.

As Professor, you will have an important role to play in the process of building a common culture of transparency and collaboration at SKH, and be involved in creating an excellent work environment.

Eligibility

We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated both artistic and teaching skills. Artistic skills at Professor level mean being a leader in your artistic field (discipline), maintaining the quality of your activity at the highest international level and having deep and broad knowledge of your artistic field.

Teaching skill at Professor level means that you have demonstrated teaching skill in artistic contexts within or outside the university. The ability to develop, lead and conduct high-quality teaching at various levels.

Your tasks require you to conduct active professional artistic work in the area of Cinematography. In addition, you must have the personal abilities needed to perform your duties effectively and to be able to represent the university in such a way that benefits its activities.

You should have an excellent ability to express yourself in English in speech and writing.

Assessment criteria

The following criteria will be assessed, listed in order of priority:

  • Artistic skills – excellence within your artistic field, demonstrated by active artistic practice; The quality of your activities is to be at the highest international level;
  • Teaching skills – proven teaching skills in an artistic context within or outside the University;
  • Ability to describe your teaching and your approach to teaching;
  • Documented experience as a cinematographer in fiction for film, TV and media and in documentary film for various platforms;
  • Documented experience of producing film and media in a variety of formats such as TV series, and short and feature-length films;
  • Documented capacity to collaborate well, and experience of various types of methods used in teamwork;
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the technological developments impacting the work of cinematographers, as an individual artist and as part of a team;
  • Documented experience of managing and coordinating processes in film and media;
  • Experience of teaching in English;
  • Knowledge of and ability to develop international collaborations and exchanges;
  • Ability to reflect on and problematize values related to student recruitment and the development of the subject.

You must have completed training in teaching at university level or are expected to complete such a course within the next three years. Alternatively, you must have documented equivalent knowledge.

About the position of employment

The position offered is a full-time position and is limited to 5 years, after which the employment may be renewed. However, total employment time may not exceed ten years. An applicant who is offered the position and who has in total, with the time added from his/her current position, been employed under a fixed-term contract within the meaning of Chapter 4 Section 10 of the Higher Education Ordinance for more than ten years at the Stockholm University of the Arts, shall be employed in this position under a contract with conditional tenure (‘until further notice’).

Appointment to begin in January 2019.
